What’s Happening at Stampede Park: Nov. 30 – Dec. 6

November 30th, 2009 by Next Generation

And now, something special for all you loyal Stampede Blog readers:

‘Twas a month before Christmas, and all through the Park,
not a creature was stirring, not even an Aardvark;
But just ’cause things are winding down due to the holiday cheer,
that doesn’t mean there is nothing that is happening down here!

There’s dancing and bull riding and a concert or two,
and even a special sale at the Stampede Store for you!
So sit back, relax, and maybe grab a beer,
’cause now we’ll show you some of the things happening Here. All Year.

Whirlwind of a Trip

November 24th, 2009 by Janelle Phillips

We were up and back from Edmonton within two days and yet still managed to attend two luncheons, take part in a “behind the chutes tour” and experience the thrilling Canadian Finals Rodeo. We had the privilege of watching Brittney Foster from Grande Prairie and Dana Hansen from Airdrie being crowned Miss Rodeo Canada and Miss Rodeo Canada Princess on Thursday November 12th. Then on Friday we sold 50/50 tickets for the Ladies of Pro Rodeo fundraiser luncheon. The funds were being raised for the Cowboy Benefit Fund and Canadian Pro Rodeo Sports Medicine. What a great cause!

Get Ready Calgary!

November 24th, 2009 by Janelle Phillips

I am disappointed that the Stampeders will not be part of the game this weekend but I am excited for the city of Calgary to come to life while we host one of Canada’s major sporting events, the Grey Cup. Over the next few days there will be a variety of festivities to attend leading up to Sunday’s big game. These include; pancake breakfasts, parties and the Grey Cup parade. The Calgary Stampede is also a major event for our city so it seems fitting that we will be representing our wonderful organization at many great events this week. I am especially looking forward to riding in the Parade on Saturday and meeting many new people. I hope Calgary is ready to come out and celebrate with us!

What’s Happening at Stampede Park: November 9 – 15

Another busy week has gone by! This year is going super fast and before you know it, Christmas will be here (45 more shopping days), Canada welcomes the World for the Olympics (94 more days to go) and eventually, Stampede 2010 (July 9-18; 242 more sleeps, but who’s counting anyways?) will be upon us!

How was everyone’s weekend? Have you seen the Christmas lights the Park staff have put up over the last week? Very impressive! I stopped in for a little bit at the Corb Lund concert on Saturday; always love hearing “The Truck got Stuck”.

Anyways, shall we get going and see What’s Happening this week?

Bon Jovi to play at the 2010 Calgary Stampede!

November 3rd, 2009 by Melanie

The Calgary Stampede is thrilled, I repeat: THRILLED, to announce that Bon Jovi, one of the most prolific and exciting live rock bands in the world, is the first major act to be announced for next year’s Calgary Stampede, July 9-18, 2010.  The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth welcomes Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, David Bryan and Tico Torres to the Pengrowth Saddledome on Wednesday, July 14.

Bon Jovi’s visit to next year’s Stampede will be the only western Canadian arena show during the band’s The Circle World Tour.  The tour will see the band spend much of the next two years on the road, performing 135 shows in 30 countries.

“Obviously, we’re overjoyed to welcome Bon Jovi, one of the hardest working rock bands in the world to next year’s Stampede,” say Jim Laurendeau, senior manager, Stampede Programming. “We know that this is just the first of many major announcements about the talented lineup we’re bringing to next year’s show. Stay tuned.”

Over the past two decades, Bon Jovi has sold more than 120 million albums, and performed more than 2,600 concerts in over 50 countries for more than 34 million fans.

Tickets for Bon Jovi go on sale on Monday, November 16 at 10 a.m. and range from $49.50 to $169.50 (plus applicable ticket fees). Tickets would make a terrific Christmas gift and are available online at www.ticketmaster.ca or by calling Ticketmaster at 403-777-0000.

Everyone singalong now because you know you want to:

When I walk these streets
A loaded six string on my back
I play for keeps
‘Cause I might not make it back

I’ve been everywhere
(Ohh, yea)
Still I’m standin’ tall
I’ve seen a million faces
And I’ve rocked them all

‘Cause I’m a cowboy
On a steel horse I ride
I’m wanted
(Wanted)
Dead or alive

We can’t wait to be rocked Bon Jovi!
