MARCHING SHOWBANDS IN COMPETITION

Nearly 1,000 competitors from several bands worldwide will showcase “Broadway style? musical routines on a stage the size of a football field. These talented youth combine musical elements from marching, pop, jazz and classical styles adding dance, creativity, colour and artistry to present stunning musical and visual performances. An international panel will judge the field of competitors who will vie for top honours and $12,000 in prize money. All competing bands will compete beginning at 6 p.m.

Exhibition performances, including appearances by The Band of Outriders and the Calgary Stampede Showband, will also be featured. This festival of musical excellence and entertainment will culminate in the awards ceremony.

Marching Bands can also be seen daily during the 10 days of Stampede in non-competitive performances at Stampede Park, Fluor Rope Square and at Stampede breakfasts held throughout the city.

 
 
 
   

STAMPEDE BANDS

CALGARY STAMPEDE SHOWBAND

Daily at 12:30pm, 8:40pm & 10:30pm

Since 1971, the Stampede Showband has been dazzling audiences with their unique brand of entertainment. The Stampede Showband is on the leading edge of creativity in the showband world. You can catch the world-renowned Calgary Stampede Showband each and every day during the Stampede.

Don’t miss the exciting sounds of the past, daily at 12:30pm at the Saddledome Plaza Stage. The Showband will perform music from a broad range of styles – from Blood, Sweat and Tears to music from the band Queen.

At 8:40pm at the Saddledome Plaza Stage, the Showband will feature the 2006 summer field show entitled Chaos vs. Serenity. This program tells the explores opposites while journeying towards balance, and utilizes both our full group as well as a variety of break out ensembles.

The Showband will also perform at 1:10pm and 10pm on the Grandstand stage before the Rodeo and in the nightly Grandstand Show respectively. Look for the Showband to return to the Saddledome Plaza at 10:30pm. for an exciting late night show.

The Showband performs at various Stampede breakfasts and other events during the 10 days. Look for the Showband at various locations around the park.
 
Come watch the fun and energetic breakout ensembles of the Stampede Showband. These small ensembles numbering from 8 to 20 people will appear daily during Stampede. Catch the breakout ensembles of the Calgary Stampede Showband at the Saddledome Plaza Stage, Stampede Gate, Grandstand Courtyard, Volunteer Fountain at the Big Four and in front of the Stampede Store.

A BAND OF OUTRIDERS

A Band of Outriders is an energetic 32-piece musical ensemble that will blow you away. The band plays everything from pop charts to westerns to movie soundtracks. Outriders are comprised of many Calgary Stampede Showband alumni and other musicians from the Calgary area. They will perform daily at the following locations:

• Saddledome Plaza Stage 7:00pm & 8:30pm
• Stampede Store
• Grandstand Courtyard 
• Volunteer Fountain at the Big Four
• Saddledome Plaza Stage

Additional performances on weekends at 11:30am and again at 3pm at the same locations as above. 

CALGARY STAMPEDE SHOWRIDERS

Meet and greet daily at noon.

Check out the superb horsemanship and excitement of the Stampede Showriders. The Showriders have two different musical rides this year. The first ride is a ‘Tribute to Elvis’ and the other is entitled ‘The Rodeo Ride’, which is choreographed to the exciting music of country music stars.

Daily Performances:

• Meet and Greet – Saddledome Plaza Stage at noon.
• In the Grandstand infield at 7:15pm

Additional performances throughout the week will be held in the Saddledome and in the Big Top with the Light Horse Exhibition.  Additional Meet and Greet opportunities are available around park during the 10-day event.

MARCHING BANDS AT THE STAMPEDE PARADE

Friday, July 6

Join the hundreds of thousands of spectators as they enjoy more than 20 marching bands perform and compete for $20,000 in prize money. More than 1,600 musicians and colour guards from Calgary, Western Canada and internationally will be participating in this years Parade. The coveted awards for best band and best band auxiliary have been won in previous years by bands from all over the world in this renowned international competition.

The Calgary Stampede Band Management Committee recruits local, national and international marching bands, drum corps, and show bands to come to Calgary to musically enhance the Calgary Stampede experience and its free attractions. Bands can participate in the Calgary Stampede Parade, the Competition for Marching Show Bands and a variety of other Stampede-related events in and around Calgary. If you are looking for a band to entertain your guests – this is the group for you!
