Alberta Fed Beef Expo

Pens of five market ready cattle will be judged and sold. Grand and Reserve Grand Champion pens of steers and heifers will be transported to Stampede Park and sold in the Big Top Tent in conjunction with the final round of the International Livestock Auctioneer Championships.

Beef Cattle Showcase

The 2008 Beef Cattle Showcase is a live animal display of Alberta’s beef cattle breeds. Located in the main barn this showcase will also incorporate informative displays about the various breeds. With 39% of the Canadian beef herd located in Alberta, the beef industry not only contributes to the financial well-being of this province, but also plays a part in our daily healthy living.

BMO Bank of Montreal Farm Family Awards

The BMO Bank of Montreal Farm Family Awards recognize and honour outstanding southern Alberta farm families who best typify the value of the family farm to our rural communities and the farming industry. Municipal district offices throughout Southern Alberta nominate deserving families who are then invited to a day of celebration in their honour.

International Livestock Auctioneer Competition

Contestants from the USA and Canada compete in an actual cattle sale, held at the Calgary Stockyards, Strathmore Friday, July 11th. The top 10 contestants then advance to the Championship in the Big Top. A panel of five judges score the contestants on spotting bids, repartee and timing, rhythm, clarity and voice control, livestock knowledge as well as appearance and mannerisms.

Metal Art Showcase

The World Championship Blacksmiths Committee is proud to present the Metal Art Showcase, a show and auction of some of the finest forged works of art available. Artist blacksmiths from around the world have been invited to submit unique pieces of metal art, created by using traditional forging methods and techniques. The Metal Art Showcase awards cash prizes for the top works of art as selected by judges, collectors and peers. All work is sold in a live auction.

World Championship Blacksmith Competition

The toughest, most prestigious contest of its kind, the World Championship Blacksmith Competition utilizes the traditional coal fire throughout the event and draws top competitors from around the globe. See sparks fly and hear anvils ring as world-class blacksmiths put their skills to the test in what is often referred to as the “Olympics of Blacksmithing."

International Agriculture

The Calgary Stampede International Agriculture Committee brings members of the world’s agricultural community together to share ideas, facilitate business opportunities and to foster friendship and cultural understanding. They present agricultural product and service exhibits, share information on industry sectors and invite international visitors with an involvement or interest in agriculture to socialize with producers, industry specialists, exporters and government representatives.
