Thanks for a great 2009 Stampede! The information you are currently viewing is from this year’s event held July 3-12, 2009. We look forward to seeing you next year. Stay tuned for information on the 2010 Stampede in the coming months.

It's more dazzling than ever!  The all new Grandstand Show features Allie Bertram and Miles Faber, Calgary's own sizzling stars from So You Think You Can Dance Canada.  Plus, comedian Sugar Sammy and Suzie McNeil from Rock Star: INXS have joined the show to blaze their way across the stage.

Cap it off with the Young Canadians of the Calgary Stampede and the 'TransAlta Lights Up the Night' firework display, and it's an entertainment extravaganza you won't want to miss!

ALLIE BERTRAM AND MILES FABER

The Calgary Stampede is thrilled to present two of the most well-known young dancers in Canada today, Calgary’s own champions and winners - direct from the television hit So You Think You Can Dance Canada - Allie Bertram and Miles Faber.

SUGAR SAMMY

The Big Show welcomes Sugar Sammy, aka Sam Khullar, one of the hottest young comedians on the international circuit. Distinguishing him from his peers, Sugar Sammy performs in four languages: English, French, Punjabi and Hindi. He sets attendance records for his shows and critics worldwide are unanimous in their praise of his hilarious material and his laconic delivery. Askmen.com named him "Comedy's New Rock Star".

SUZIE MCNEIL - “LET’S GO”

July 3 to 8 and 10 to 12

Suzie is a powerful up-and-coming Canadian Rock Singer. In addition to the success of her own music, she has created her own version of rock music’s classic compositions. Some of her standout performances include The Rolling Stones' "Start Me Up", R.E.M.'s hit "Losing My Religion" and Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody”.

As Suzie literally takes to the skies over our audience, the stage will rock with her upbeat international release “Let’s Go,” as flowers cascade over Stampede guests and the music creates a performance that is certain to captivate everyone.

Because of a television commitment, Suzie is unable to appear at the Grandstand Show on Thursday, July 9.

ScrapArtsMusic

ScrapArtsMusic excites the senses with intricate rhythms, raw energy, athletic choreography and the greenest -and most inventive- reuse of materials on stage today. Fashioned from industrial scrap and offbeat materials ranging from accordion parts to artillery shells, ScrapArtsMusic's one-of-a-kind instruments are as visually striking as their music is sonically riveting.

Audiences from four continents have welcomed this electrifying quintet with unbridled enthusiasm, embracing their intoxicating mix of music, movement and spectacle. Transcending language, culture and age, ScrapArtsMusic offers a highly physical, wildly theatrical and thoroughly entertaining taste of the musical
vanguard.

THE YOUNG CANADIANS

The Young Canadians School of Performing Arts is a year-round program supported by the Calgary Stampede that provides world-class performing arts education for young Albertans ages 7 - 20. Students receive free training on evenings and weekends through scholarships provided by The Calgary Stampede Foundation. In addition, high school students are eligible for post secondary educational scholarships and academic tutoring.

Each year, students perform in several large scale productions including a Christmas Show, a Spring Show, and for 10 nights they are the featured performers for 16,000 guests at the Calgary Stampede Grandstand Show. Acceptance into The Young Canadians School is through an audition process, held twice a year. In 2008, The Young Canadians celebrated 40 years of performing at the Calgary Stampede.

THE WHEEL OF DEATH

Developed in the mid twentieth century by Clyde Beckett, the Wheel of Death conjures with each turn of the spoke a sense of fear and delight, stretching to the limit the boundaries of possibility and imagination.

This magnificent 1,600 pound construct rotates at heart-stopping speeds, powered only by the two artists who leap and counter-rotate in a death-defying display of fearless acrobatics and astonishing teamwork.

THE WHEELS OF VICTORY

Extremes of daring continue to permeate The Big Show. Where the blacktop ends the fun begins as The Extreme Dream Team Motorcycles fly through explosives, fireworks and fire over our stage in a performance that will leave you breathless.

DREAM FLIGHT CABLE SYSTEM

This summer, the Stampede Grandstand Evening Spectacular will present circus artists from Quebec, musical artists from Ontario, and dancers and singers from Alberta in a new and magical performance called “Dream Flight,” featuring a cable system that will allow artists to float above the heads of the Stampede audience in a delightful (sometimes thrilling) suspension of the law of gravity.

Imagine singers flying through the air as graceful trapeze artists descend with bouquets of live flowers cascading among audience members. Picture strength and agility demonstrated 15 meters high, while a tapestry of cultures and performance art unfolds.

TRANSALTA LIGHTS UP THE NIGHT

The magic of a million dreams lights up the Western Canadian Sky as TransAlta invites us into a place of fantasy, mystery and fun. Magnificent fireworks explode into a million points of light, as magic flying windows rotate on the stage and then fly up into the night sky in a salute to Canada that has developed a true patriotic reputation nation-wide.
