Bull Riding

Aaron Roy has been competing in bull riding since his teens and became very competitive after the success of his brothers, Matt and Nathan. Sibling rivalry drove Aaron to work hard and place himself among the best. He qualified for the World Finals last year where he had an impressive 90-point ride on his way to winning the 2008 PBR Canadian Championship.

Denton’s grandpa, Norman Edge, was also a bull rider, and he gave Denton his start in the sport. A past Calgary Stampede Boys Steer Riding Champion, Denton’s personal high score is an impressive 92 points. When he’s not competing in rodeo, Denton enjoys hockey and golf.

Devon is the 2008 BC Circuit Bull Riding Champion and finished 6th in the standings last year. This Alberta bound rider has been riding professionally since 2006. Devon comes from a rodeo family, and his dad also rode bulls. He also enjoys hockey and wakeboarding.

J.B. has been competing for 18 years, and likes rodeoing because the job doesn’t have a boss! His most embarrassing moment came when a bull stepped on him and ripped his jeans (he wasn’t wearing any underwear). By age 14, J.B. was riding bulls in competitions. In June of 2005, Mauney had quite a scare in the rodeo arena: he had broken all of the ribs on his right side, lacerated his liver, and bruised both his kidney and spleen. The injuries forced him to miss the 2005 PBR World Finals. He came back the following season with a number of wins and hasn’t looked back.

Scott credits his dad and the Johansen Bull Riding School with teaching him the fundamentals of riding. Schiffner says the proudest moment in his career was winning the Calgary Stampede in 2001.

Sean has been riding for 11 years. He started in roping but the first time he got on a steer, he was hooked.
He attended Western Texas College in Snyder, Texas on a rodeo scholarship.
Sean enjoys golf, wakeboarding and dancing.

Ty cleaned up nicely last year as the CPRA Bull Riding Season Leader and the Wrangler Canadian Rodeo Tour Bull Riding Champion in 2008. After his first year of making the CFR, he also finished 5th in the CPRA standings.

Tyler has been in rodeo since he was 8 years old. He is a third generation cowboy and believes in making his own luck. Tyler is the 2008 Canadian Bull Riding Champion.

Zack began his career 9 years ago when he moved from Hawaii back to California and took to a practice pen riding bulls. His natural ability was apparent from the start as Brown not only started placing at PRCA rodeos —he won Rookie of the Year honors in 2000. Zack still claims, “I’m not doing anything exceptional. I’m just the guy who’s hanging on for 8 seconds.”
In his spare time Zack spends his days off spearfishing and golfing. It makes sense then, that if he could be on any reality TV show, he would choose one that would let him travel the world so he could do fun, crazy things (like spearfishing) on someone else's dime.

Bobby and his wife, Sunny have three children. Sunny is also involved in rodeo through her Barrel Racing career. His father and two of his brothers were also PRCA competitors so the sport is a way of life for him. Bobby notes that his rodeo idol is his dad, and his music idol is the late Chris LeDoux.

Chance’s father is a team roper, so he grew up riding his dad’s steers. Chance has now been competing for a total of 19 years, four of which have been as a professional. Before and after every ride, Chance prays – he notes “God gave me my ability. He deserves the recognition.” He is a welder by trade, and enjoys golfing and listening to his favorite country artist, Johnny Cash.

Kanin is engaged to Sydney and on a day off you can find him working on the ranch or fishing with her.
Kanin was set to ride at the Calgary Stampede in 2008 but a bad injury prevented him from competing. He is back this year and ready as ever.

L.J. bought his PBR permit on the day he turned 18 and won fist place at the PBR event in Gillette Wyoming that night. He made an impressive 93-point ride on Reindeer Dippin at the Built Ford Tough Event in Laughlin Nevada in 2005. He enjoys playing basketball and traveling.

Mike is last year’s Calgary Stampede Bull Riding Champion! He has been riding professionally for eight years. His most memorable rodeo experience was winning the 2004 PBR title. Mike says his favorite thing about rodeo is when, “the gate opens and it’s just between the bull and me. With almost 2.6 million dollars in career winnings, the mild-mannered Texan is always a favourite to win wherever he goes.

Reese got on his first bull at the age of 14, and through trial and error and help from family, Cates began to emerge as a true competitor for the best bull riders in the world. He qualified for his first Built Ford Tough Series event at the start of the 2008 season and was named PBR Rookie of the Year. Finally getting to ride on the elite tour was one of Cates’ proudest moments.

At the encouragement of his four brothers, Brazilian born Renato Nunes began riding bulls at the age of 18. Nunes was very successful during the 2007 season with an event win in Tacoma. He's placed in the top-10 at eight events and in the top-5 at four events during the regular 2008 Built Ford Tough Series season.
He is often seen doing the celebratory back-flip after making the eight-second whistle.

Ross Coleman rode his first calf at age seven—the same year he won his first buckle. By high school, Coleman wasn’t just a stand out in bull riding, but he competed in every event in rodeo.
Ross will put on his 5th annual Make-A-Wish Foundation of Oregon fundraiser rodeo in 2009.

Has had two $100,000 rides, one at the 2006 Calgary Stampede as well as in the Mossy Oak Shoot Out Bonus round at the 2001 Columbus, Ohio PBR event.
This veteran bull rider has six career event wins to his name.

Steve got involved in rodeo through his family and had been competing for almost 20 years. His parents, Lars and Dora, run a dairy operation. Steve‘s hobbies include swimming, taking long walks and anything involving pizza.

Wiley has been competing for 20 years, ten professionally. He recalls one particular ride, while running to get out of the bull’s way—his spurs locked together and he executed a perfect face plant in the dirt. Wiley honed his bull riding skills while on a rodeo scholarship at Idaho State University. Wiley’s career earnings exceed 1.3 million dollars, a success he attributes to his Christian faith and some hard work.
