Indian Village Opens Presented by Penn West

The Indian Village has been part of the Calgary Stampede since 1912 and is one of the most popular attractions during the 10-day festival. The First Nations people at the Indian Village represent the five tribes of Treaty 7 and include the Siksika, Tsuu T'ina, Stoney/Nakoda, Piikani and Kainai. Visitors to the Village can relax in a beautiful park setting while viewing demonstrations of native dance and tasting authentic Indian Bannock. There are so many traditions to explore! Canadian Forces Display

The 2009 Calgary Stampede will see the continuation of the long-standing relationship between the Canadian Forces and the Stampede. There will be a display of Army, Navy and Air Force vehicles, personnel and equipment, including a Leopard C2 tank, a LAV III TOW Under Armour, a Navy MK 48 missile and a Centennial of Flight CF-18 cockpit. The Canadian Forces Display will be located in Saddledome Lane, along the south end of the Pengrowth Saddledome.

RCMP Display

Today's RCMP is both steeped in tradition and on the leading edge of policing. Guests can visit the RCMP display in Saddledome Lane to have their photograph taken with an officer in the world famous traditional Red Serge, and learn more about Canada's national police force.

Sharing Our Culture With The World

The Treaty 7 First Nations and the Calgary Stampede present a cross-cultural exchange for First Nation's dancers and drummers to perform their traditional dances and songs at the Indian Village. Performances have been scheduled throughout Stampede to offer insight into the body movements, regalia, songs and sacred objects that are represented in the men's and women's dances.

Jeritol Jivers (Rhythm Band)

Their ages range from 65 to 92 years young and almost all the instruments are handmade. Members come and go but the Jeritol Jivers have been playing for the last 25 years. The piano player picks the melody and the members of the band join in. They have tap dancers, singers and they play all kinds of music. Young or young at heart, you won’t want to miss the fun program they have put together for our stage.

Priefert Percherons - Meet 'n Greet

The Priefert Percheron Hitch will be thundering through the 10 days of Stampede. Under the guidance of experienced horseman and talented driver Jason Goodman, the Priefert Percherons have evolved into one of the premier draft horse exhibition attractions in the country. These massive Black Percheron Draft Horses have been used for farming, logging, pulling heavy wagons, and carriages. The Priefert Percherons team is one of the largest; weighing an average of 2200 pounds and standing an average 18.2 hands tall. Come visit with Jason and these gentle giants.

The Handgame is an ancient game within North American First Nation's cultures. The First Nation's culture passed on its information orally through the use of stories and song. Through the Handgame, stories could be, and still are, shared. The Handgame brought people together: people from within the tribe and also from different tribes. The game itself involves the use of four bones, two with a mark, and two unmarked, and a set of 11 coloured sticks. The colour scheme of the sticks indicates the sticks of each team.

Canadian Forces Display

The 2009 Calgary Stampede will see the continuation of the long-standing relationship between the Canadian Forces and the Stampede. There will be a display of Army, Navy and Air Force vehicles, personnel and equipment, including a Leopard C2 tank, a LAV III TOW Under Armour, a Navy MK 48 missile and a Centennial of Flight CF-18 cockpit. The Canadian Forces Display will be located in Saddledome Lane, along the south end of the Pengrowth Saddledome.

RCMP Display

Today's RCMP is both steeped in tradition and on the leading edge of policing. Guests can visit the RCMP display in Saddledome Lane to have their photograph taken with an officer in the world famous traditional Red Serge, and learn more about Canada's national police force.

The Handgame is an ancient game within North American First Nation's cultures. The First Nation's culture passed on its information orally through the use of stories and song. Through the Handgame, stories could be, and still are, shared. The Handgame brought people together: people from within the tribe and also from different tribes. The game itself involves the use of four bones, two with a mark, and two unmarked, and a set of 11 coloured sticks. The colour scheme of the sticks indicates the sticks of each team.

Total prize money for the 2009 event will be $1,154,400, which includes a Sunday Showdown Final Heat that pays $150,000. The World Stock Dog Championship

Canadian Forces Display

The 2009 Calgary Stampede will see the continuation of the long-standing relationship between the Canadian Forces and the Stampede. There will be a display of Army, Navy and Air Force vehicles, personnel and equipment, including a Leopard C2 tank, a LAV III TOW Under Armour, a Navy MK 48 missile and a Centennial of Flight CF-18 cockpit. The Canadian Forces Display will be located in Saddledome Lane, along the south end of the Pengrowth Saddledome.

RCMP Display

Prairie Mountain Fiddlers

The Prairie Mountain Fiddlers began in 1986 as a way to bring together all those interested in old time fiddle. Today their playing membership totals 45 to 50 and they have another 40 non-playing members. As well as the fiddlers, some members play guitar, banjo, mandolin, piano, bass and other acoustic instruments. To celebrate Alberta's Centennial in 2005, they completed their 4th recording. They have played sold out concerts at Mount Royal College, the University of Calgary, and the Bert Church Theatre in Airdrie. They have also performed at the Torrington Old Dance Festival, the Chevron Stampede Breakfast, and Heritage Park.

Robbie Robertson (RCMP Cowboy Poet)

Robbie Robertson has been associated with the RCMP for more than fifty years; an active member for twenty eight years. He writes and recites poetry about the early history of the Force and some of its heroes. He has performed in London England, Texas, Arizona and numerous Cowboy Poetry Gatherings in Western Canada including the world famous Calgary Stampede. He has appeared as a guest on national television and radio. "The Mountie Cowboy Poet", also entertains as an after dinner and convention speaker and has recently performed as a guest lecturer with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines Alaska Cruises.

The Priefert Percheron Hitch will be thundering through the 10 days of Stampede. Under the guidance of experienced horseman and talented driver Jason Goodman, the Priefert Percherons have evolved into one of the premier draft horse exhibition attractions in the country. These massive Black Percheron Draft Horses have been used for farming, logging, pulling heavy wagons, and carriages. The Priefert Percherons team is one of the largest; weighing an average of 2200 pounds and standing an average 18.2 hands tall. Come visit with Jason and these gentle giants.

The Handgame is an ancient game within North American First Nation's cultures. The First Nation's culture passed on its information orally through the use of stories and song. Through the Handgame, stories could be, and still are, shared. The Handgame brought people together: people from within the tribe and also from different tribes. The game itself involves the use of four bones, two with a mark, and two unmarked, and a set of 11 coloured sticks. The colour scheme of the sticks indicates the sticks of each team.

The World Stock Dog Championship

Total prize money for the 2009 event will be $1,154,400, which includes a Sunday Showdown Final Heat that pays $150,000. The 2009 Calgary Stampede will see the continuation of the long-standing relationship between the Canadian Forces and the Stampede. There will be a display of Army, Navy and Air Force vehicles, personnel and equipment, including a Leopard C2 tank, a LAV III TOW Under Armour, a Navy MK 48 missile and a Centennial of Flight CF-18 cockpit. The Canadian Forces Display will be located in Saddledome Lane, along the south end of the Pengrowth Saddledome.

RCMP Display

Robbie Robertson (RCMP Cowboy Poet)

Robbie Robertson has been associated with the RCMP for more than fifty years; an active member for twenty eight years. He writes and recites poetry about the early history of the Force and some of its heroes. He has performed in London England, Texas, Arizona and numerous Cowboy Poetry Gatherings in Western Canada including the world famous Calgary Stampede. He has appeared as a guest on national television and radio. "The Mountie Cowboy Poet", also entertains as an after dinner and convention speaker and has recently performed as a guest lecturer with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines Alaska Cruises.

Known for her powerful vocal range, Ryder who hails from the small town of Millbrook, Ontario, has logged some serious tour miles going across Canada multiple times, as well as the U.S., Australia and Europe. The Handgame is an ancient game within North American First Nation's cultures. The First Nation's culture passed on its information orally through the use of stories and song. Through the Handgame, stories could be, and still are, shared. The Handgame brought people together: people from within the tribe and also from different tribes. The game itself involves the use of four bones, two with a mark, and two unmarked, and a set of 11 coloured sticks. The colour scheme of the sticks indicates the sticks of each team.

The World Stock Dog Championship Finals

This final features the top 15 dogs overall from the two go-rounds. Cheer on your favorite as they herd three sheep through a specified course trying for the fastest time and no faults. The grand champion wins $10,000 in prize money.

Canadian Forces Display

The 2009 Calgary Stampede will see the continuation of the long-standing relationship between the Canadian Forces and the Stampede. There will be a display of Army, Navy and Air Force vehicles, personnel and equipment, including a Leopard C2 tank, a LAV III TOW Under Armour, a Navy MK 48 missile and a Centennial of Flight CF-18 cockpit. The Canadian Forces Display will be located in Saddledome Lane, along the south end of the Pengrowth Saddledome.

Prairie Mountain Fiddlers

The Prairie Mountain Fiddlers began in 1986 as a way to bring together all those interested in old time fiddle. Today their playing membership totals 45 to 50 and they have another 40 non-playing members. As well as the fiddlers, some members play guitar, banjo, mandolin, piano, bass and other acoustic instruments. To celebrate Alberta's Centennial in 2005, they completed their 4th recording. They have played sold out concerts at Mount Royal College, the University of Calgary, and the Bert Church Theatre in Airdrie. They have also performed at the Torrington Old Dance Festival, the Chevron Stampede Breakfast, and Heritage Park.

Meet a member of the Express Clydesdales staff and one of these magnificent black Clydesdales up close. The Express Clydesdales will be featured in the Agrium Ag-tivity in the City area. Watch for this hitch of an authentic 24 passenger hotel coach replica, as it will be making appearances at various venues throughout Stampede. Most evenings there will be opportunity to watch them hitch these wonderful black Clydesdales in the Ag-tivity in the City area as they prepare for their appearance in front of the Grandstand. The Express Clydesdales have been competing nationally and in Canada since 1999, bringing home world-class awards and international recognition.

The Handgame is an ancient game within North American First Nation's cultures. The First Nation's culture passed on its information orally through the use of stories and song. Through the Handgame, stories could be, and still are, shared. The Handgame brought people together: people from within the tribe and also from different tribes. The game itself involves the use of four bones, two with a mark, and two unmarked, and a set of 11 coloured sticks. The colour scheme of the sticks indicates the sticks of each team.

The Priefert Percheron Hitch will be thundering through the 10 days of Stampede. Under the guidance of experienced horseman and talented driver Jason Goodman, the Priefert Percherons have evolved into one of the premier draft horse exhibition attractions in the country. These massive Black Percheron Draft Horses have been used for farming, logging, pulling heavy wagons, and carriages. The Priefert Percherons team is one of the largest; weighing an average of 2200 pounds and standing an average 18.2 hands tall. Come visit with Jason and these gentle giants.

The Calgary Stampede and GMC are proud to present the 87th running of the GMC Rangeland Derby Chuckwagon Races. Total prize money for the 2009 event will be $1,154,400, which includes a Sunday Showdown Final Heat that pays $150,000. Canadian Forces Display

The 2009 Calgary Stampede will see the continuation of the long-standing relationship between the Canadian Forces and the Stampede. There will be a display of Army, Navy and Air Force vehicles, personnel and equipment, including a Leopard C2 tank, a LAV III TOW Under Armour, a Navy MK 48 missile and a Centennial of Flight CF-18 cockpit. The Canadian Forces Display will be located in Saddledome Lane, along the south end of the Pengrowth Saddledome.

RCMP Display

Today's RCMP is both steeped in tradition and on the leading edge of policing. Guests can visit the RCMP display in Saddledome Lane to have their photograph taken with an officer in the world famous traditional Red Serge, and learn more about Canada's national police force.

he Calgary Magic Circle Operates a Junior Magic Club for youth aged 8-16 years old in order to pass on knowledge, skills, and abilities to a younger generation and to foster an interest in the performing arts. Potential members are interviewed, and their acceptance is based on their attitude. Only 15 serious young magicians are chosen per year. The main focus is on performing in front of a live audience, so they are exposed to all facets of magic and on stage performance. Each young magician learns 6-9 different tricks each year.

Sharing Our Culture With The World

The Treaty 7 First Nations and the Calgary Stampede present a cross-cultural exchange for First Nation's dancers and drummers to perform their traditional dances and songs at the Indian Village. Murray has always had an intense urgency to paint, as if something important needs to be said and he can only say it with brush and canvas. He has been painting for over 40 years but much of his life has been lived in the halls of academia where he holds graduate degrees in Cultural Anthropology and Theology. For over 20 years he has taught at a variety of colleges and universities and he is in demand both as a teacher and a public speaker.

Jason Greeley (Canadian Idol Alumni/Country Singer)

The native of Upper Island Cove, Newfoundland, garnered attention on the east coast of Canada and now has moved to Alberta to pursue his song writing and recording career. "My music is about reaching one person at a time". Despite the fact he performed to over a million Canadians every week for 13 weeks as a Canadian Idol participant, Greeley still maintains music is about a voice and a heart touching a life. Greeley spent considerable time in Nashville in the late stages of 2008, writing with some of their best songwriters and has just finished recording a new album with CCMA Producer Of The Year, Joel Feeney.

The Handgame is an ancient game within North American First Nation's cultures. The First Nation's culture passed on its information orally through the use of stories and song. Through the Handgame, stories could be, and still are, shared. The Handgame brought people together: people from within the tribe and also from different tribes. The game itself involves the use of four bones, two with a mark, and two unmarked, and a set of 11 coloured sticks. The colour scheme of the sticks indicates the sticks of each team.

The 2009 Calgary Stampede will see the continuation of the long-standing relationship between the Canadian Forces and the Stampede. There will be a display of Army, Navy and Air Force vehicles, personnel and equipment, including a Leopard C2 tank, a LAV III TOW Under Armour, a Navy MK 48 missile and a Centennial of Flight CF-18 cockpit. The Canadian Forces Display will be located in Saddledome Lane, along the south end of the Pengrowth Saddledome.

Prairie Mountain Fiddlers

The Prairie Mountain Fiddlers began in 1986 as a way to bring together all those interested in old time fiddle. Today their playing membership totals 45 to 50 and they have another 40 non-playing members. As well as the fiddlers, some members play guitar, banjo, mandolin, piano, bass and other acoustic instruments. To celebrate Alberta's Centennial in 2005, they completed their 4th recording. They have played sold out concerts at Mount Royal College, the University of Calgary, and the Bert Church Theatre in Airdrie. They have also performed at the Torrington Old Dance Festival, the Chevron Stampede Breakfast, and Heritage Park.

Priefert Percherons - Meet 'n Greet

The Priefert Percheron Hitch will be thundering through the 10 days of Stampede. Under the guidance of experienced horseman and talented driver Jason Goodman, the Priefert Percherons have evolved into one of the premier draft horse exhibition attractions in the country. These massive Black Percheron Draft Horses have been used for farming, logging, pulling heavy wagons, and carriages. The Priefert Percherons team is one of the largest; weighing an average of 2200 pounds and standing an average 18.2 hands tall. Come visit with Jason and these gentle giants.

Keister Family Fiddlers

Four talented sisters aged 14, 12 and 9 year old twins, make up this refreshing, energetic and dynamic family fiddling group from Chestermere, Alberta. These musical sisters have captivated audiences at the Calgary Stampede, Big Valley Jamboree, Spruce Meadows and other fairs and jamborees in and out of Alberta. The girls have enjoyed meeting a lot of influential and supportive people, who continue to inspire them with their positive feedback. As well as playing Traditional Celtic, “East Coast” style fiddle tunes, the girls sing and clog to their music with their Mom accompanying them on her guitar. Entertaining audiences with their toe tapping fiddle music is what keeps them motivated to practice and continue to work hard.
