Barry Luft and Tim Rogers began performing together in 1974, drawn together by their passion for music that expresses the spirit of the Canadian west. In 1983 they released an LP entitled Songs of the Iron Trail: The Canadian Railroad Experience in Song which became a pioneer album in the heritage music movement. This album of classic railway songs has won multiple awards being rereleased as a CD in 2007.

The Calgary Stampede and GMC are proud to present the 87th running of the GMC Rangeland Derby Chuckwagon Races. Every evening, nine heats comprised of four wagons and 16 outriders compete in an arduous race. Today, the rewards of winning a chuckwagon race are much greater thanks in part to GMC. Total prize money for the 2009 event will be $1,154,400, which includes a Sunday Showdown Final Heat that pays $150,000. Since arriving on the country music scene as a CCMA showcase artist in 2003, Tracy Millar has been recognized as one of Alberta’s true country treasures. Growing up in Hines Creek, Alberta, musical influences such as Charley Pride and Ricky Skaggs helped develop Tracy's love for traditional country music. Tracy released her first album “You Go Girl…” in 2005. She received airplay on both commercial country radio and campus/specialty radio stations. Many have enjoyed her repertoire as she stays true to her classic country roots. “I’m Not That Girl Anymore”, released in 2008 is Tracy’s second album release and showcases her growth as a songwriter and as an artist. Its traditional country and bluegrass styling indicate that Canada undoubtedly has a new and captivating voice that simply must be heard.

Charlie Ewing makes his living on a cattle ranch in southern Alberta, Canada. He has been playing folk, bluegrass and country music since he started playing guitar back in the sixties. He started writing songs about ranch and country life about ten years ago, and has been performing them as a solo act. He loves old folk music, especially those with rural or historical themes and his biggest influences include Ian Tyson, Gordon Lightfoot, bluegrass players like Tim O’brien, Tony Rice and old time musicians like Norman Blake and Doc Watson.

Prairie Mountain Fiddlers

The Prairie Mountain Fiddlers began in 1986 as a way to bring together all those interested in old time fiddle. Today their playing membership totals 45 to 50 and they have another 40 non-playing members. As well as the fiddlers, some members play guitar, banjo, mandolin, piano, bass and other acoustic instruments. To celebrate Alberta's Centennial in 2005, they completed their 4th recording. They have played sold out concerts at Mount Royal College, the University of Calgary, and the Bert Church Theatre in Airdrie. They have also performed at the Torrington Old Dance Festival, the Chevron Stampede Breakfast, and Heritage Park.

Robbie Robertson has been associated with the RCMP for more than fifty years; an active member for twenty eight years. He writes and recites poetry about the early history of the Force and some of its heroes. He has performed in London England, Texas, Arizona and numerous Cowboy Poetry Gatherings in Western Canada including the world famous Calgary Stampede. He has appeared as a guest on national television and radio. "The Mountie Cowboy Poet", also entertains as an after dinner and convention speaker and has recently performed as a guest lecturer with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines Alaska Cruises.

Total prize money for the 2009 event will be $1,154,400, which includes a Sunday Showdown Final Heat that pays $150,000. Robbie Robertson has been associated with the RCMP for more than fifty years; an active member for twenty eight years. He writes and recites poetry about the early history of the Force and some of its heroes. He has performed in London England, Texas, Arizona and numerous Cowboy Poetry Gatherings in Western Canada including the world famous Calgary Stampede. He has appeared as a guest on national television and radio. "The Mountie Cowboy Poet", also entertains as an after dinner and convention speaker and has recently performed as a guest lecturer with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines Alaska Cruises.

Prairie Mountain Fiddlers

The Prairie Mountain Fiddlers began in 1986 as a way to bring together all those interested in old time fiddle. Today their playing membership totals 45 to 50 and they have another 40 non-playing members. As well as the fiddlers, some members play guitar, banjo, mandolin, piano, bass and other acoustic instruments. To celebrate Alberta's Centennial in 2005, they completed their 4th recording. They have played sold out concerts at Mount Royal College, the University of Calgary, and the Bert Church Theatre in Airdrie. They have also performed at the Torrington Old Dance Festival, the Chevron Stampede Breakfast, and Heritage Park.

Jessica Dayle was born in Abbotsford BC, and lived in several logging towns until the age of 12 when she moved to Alberta with her family. Her lyrics will have you laughing one minute and crying the next. Jessica Dayle is currently recording her songs with the goal of releasing an original album, and she looks forward to performing on the Window on the West Stage.

Prairie Mountain Fiddlers

The Prairie Mountain Fiddlers began in 1986 as a way to bring together all those interested in old time fiddle. Today their playing membership totals 45 to 50 and they have another 40 non-playing members. As well as the fiddlers, some members play guitar, banjo, mandolin, piano, bass and other acoustic instruments. To celebrate Alberta's Centennial in 2005, they completed their 4th recording. They have played sold out concerts at Mount Royal College, the University of Calgary, and the Bert Church Theatre in Airdrie. They have also performed at the Torrington Old Dance Festival, the Chevron Stampede Breakfast, and Heritage Park.

They will be playing some favourite golden oldies as well as some old-time western tunes at the Stampede.

Four talented sisters aged 14, 12 and 9 year old twins, make up this refreshing, energetic and dynamic family fiddling group from Chestermere, Alberta. These musical sisters have captivated audiences at the Calgary Stampede, Big Valley Jamboree, Spruce Meadows and other fairs and jamborees in and out of Alberta. The girls have enjoyed meeting a lot of influential and supportive people, who continue to inspire them with their positive feedback. As well as playing Traditional Celtic, “East Coast” style fiddle tunes, the girls sing and clog to their music with their Mom accompanying them on her guitar. Entertaining audiences with their toe tapping fiddle music is what keeps them motivated to practice and continue to work hard.

This album of classic railway songs has won multiple awards being rereleased as a CD in 2007.

Often referred to as Southern Alberta’s Gentle Giant of Country Music, Trevor Panczak has been writing, singing and performing since he was 14 years old. Back then he was performing alongside his late father Johnny Panczak. Now, with over one thousand performances under his belt, the 27-year old UFA employee is busy with the release of his new CD titled Roll On. Raised on a farm near Magrath, Alberta, Canada, Trevor recently accomplished a Canadian first by advancing to the National final of the 26th annual Colgate Country Music Showdown in Nashville Tennessee. Despite a brilliant performance at the Ryman Auditorium Panczak fell just short of the $100,000 prize, placing 2nd to Nash Street by a 3-2 vote.

Since orphaned 36 years ago at the Grace hospital in Calgary, Alberta, this Canadian born musician has drawn upon his innate love for creating music to help carry him through what was certain to be a song-worthy journey. From earlier childhood limericks and air guitars to the ongoing performances as a single artist, Rob has versed himself in a multitude of different band arrangements and musical genres. His formal training stems from the Victoria School of Performing Arts where he won awards and bursaries in a number of disciplines including electronic music, chamber choirs, jazz ensembles and musical dramas. Rob is well known in his home city of Edmonton as a “semi-acoustic-six-string-singer-song-writer.” He continues to garner a favourable response from all those fortunate enough to have heard him play.

Jake Mathews (Country Singer/Songwriter)

Jake Mathews started getting into it when he was 14 years old and started performing live when he was 17. Jake Mathews has quickly established himself as one of Canada’s hot new country stars. He’s had a string of hits including “I’ll Do You One Better”, “That’s How Long”, “Rush”, and “You Put Me Together Again”. A Sudbury, Ontario native, but now a Calgary resident, and Stampede favorite, Jake’s music brings home a traditional country feel, along with all the excitement of “new country”. He recently signed a publishing deal with Nashville’s Grand And Gee Music, writing with Nashville’s best and penning songs for his new album, due in 2009.
Duelling Chef Competition Finale

This year, four of Calgary's Premiere Chefs - John Michael MacNeil of Teatro, Peter Swarbrick of Saint Germain, Scott Beaton of Centini and Kyle Groves of Catch Restaurant - will compete in a cook off on two different nights. John will challenge Michael Monday, July 6 at 7 p.m., and Scott will take on Kyle Thursday, July 9 at 7 p.m. The winners of these two semi-final competitions will compete against each other on Saturday, July 11 at 7pm. Mary Halpen will be emceeing these competitions.

The Calgary Stampede and GMC are proud to present the 87th running of the GMC Rangeland Derby Chuckwagon Races. Every evening, nine heats comprised of four wagons and 16 outriders compete in an arduous race. Today, the rewards of winning a chuckwagon race are much greater thanks in part to GMC. Total prize money for the 2009 event will be $1,154,400, which includes a Sunday Showdown Final Heat that pays $150,000. International Youth Livestock Scholarship Presentation

Future leaders of the agriculture industry showcase their talents at the Calgary Stampede. This event provides one of the most unique opportunities for avid agricultural enthusiasts, aged nine to 20, to display and compete with top quality livestock and showcase their personal achievements through showmanship, judging, marketing and herdsmanship. Top youth from western Canada and the United States come to compete in this prestigious show. The culmination of the event spotlights an elite group of youth ambassadors who receive the coveted aggregate awards and highly sought after scholarships.

Muddy Road (Bluegrass and Mountain Music)

Muddy Road is rooted in early American bluegrass and string roots mountain music. The group was founded in Calgary in October 2004 and has played at the Calgary Stampede, weddings, retirement homes, churches, and public and private venues. All of the members have a long history of playing and performing music and have recently released their first CD.

Duane Steele (Country Singer/Songwriter)

Duane Steele is among Canada's top country recording artists and songwriters with a professional career dating back to 1984. Over the course of that career, Steele has released five albums, had numerous radio hits (including “Anita Got Married” his first single release and #1 hit), and has had eleven videos on CMT Canada. In 1997 Duane was the winner of the CCMA for Vocal Collaboration of the Year with Lisa Brokop for the single "Two Names On An Overpass". Duane's pure voice and natural stage presence makes his live shows a must see. Fans relate to his lyrics and song writing style. When he is not touring or working on his own projects he is often writing with other artists.
